Exercise is often a key component in your recovery from your injury. For almost any orthopedic condition, there is research available that recommends exercise to achieve the best short and long-term outcomes. Your physiotherapist is experienced in prescribing specific exercises to manage your symptoms. Although you may have local muscle, tendon, ligament or disk damage, there are often several factors that predisposed you to the injury that needs to be addressed. For example, it has been proven that individuals with tennis elbow have a weaker rotator cuff (shoulder muscles) than those who have no elbow pain. Simply treating the elbow through passive treatment and medication is unlikely to be enough for a successful outcome. Your physiotherapist will use the results from your physical assessment to determine the exercises required to achieve optimal results.
